Veterans Day Events Friday, November 11th

Veterans Story Swap and Special Ceremony – The City will honor all veterans with a special program featuring a keynote address by retired U.S. Army Capt. Florent “Flo” Groberg. Musical entertainment will be provided by the School of the Arts Jazz Band.  Veterans interested in attending should contact [email protected] or the Recreation Department at 843-745-1028.

USO Days Veteran’s Day Weekend @ Joseph Manigault House – This Veteran’s Day weekend explore the history of the Joseph Manigault house.  During WWII this site was used as a USO post and Red Cross training facility.  Soldiers attended dinners, parties, played games, and wrote to their families while here in the 1940s.

5th Annual Smoke on the Harbor BBQ Throwdown – This culinary event will take place on November 11th & 12th at the Lookout Pavilion at Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina and will once again be fully sanctioned by The Kansas City Barbeque Society. Competition categories for Friday nights State Championship will include: Chicken Wings.

Holiday Festival of Lights Opening Weekend!– Each year, thousands of families create lasting memories at the Holiday Festival of Lights, where millions of multicolored lights illuminate the sky throughout 52 enchanting nights. Journey through three miles of over 700 magical light displays of all shapes and sizes.

Charleston Night Market – Area ​Artists and Artisans will take over the Charleston City Market as  THE NIGHT MARKET continues this weekend! The Night Market is located in the Charleston City Market, Charleston’s #1 most visited attraction; a venue where over 50 area artisans, artists, food vendors, and local musicians gather together, each Friday, Saturday & night, to create a memorable evening. 6:30 pm-10:30 pm.

Palmetto Brewing Loading Dock Music Series – Join Palmetto Brewing for the 2016 Loading Dock Music Series. Live shows every Friday at 289 Huger St. Performances begin at 6, and the music goes until close at 10PM!

Sweat Tea Festival: Half Marathon – Enjoy 13.1 miles that begins in the center of  town and takes you on to our recreational running path and through some of our lovely neighborhoods ending back in the center of town. While running, you will enjoy live entertainment as well as lively water stations.

Charleston Farmers Market – Located in Marion Square in the heart of Historic District in Downtown Charleston, SC, the CFM is open each Saturday, from April 9th through November 26th, 8 AM to 2 PM. There are a variety of local produce, plants, herbs and cut flowers as well as breakfast and lunch vendors, live entertainment and an assortment of juried arts and crafts from local artisans.

Johns Island Homegrown Farmers Market – The aim of Homegrown is to be a point of sustainable connection for the Lowcountry community. Homegrown also holds a mission of bringing interactive ways to educate your community on the health and environmental benefits of making sustainable choices. Homegrown offers classes, demos, and interactive opportunities for locals to be active in making sustainable choices in their lives.

Boots, Bottles, and A Blessing Festival – Deep Water Vineyard and Firefly Distillery are proud to host the Boots, Bottles, and A Blessing Festival; food trucks, vendors, bull-riding, laser skeet shooting, heck yes – it’s country!

South Carolina Underground Film Festival – The SCUFF will be two packed days of indie films where fans and filmmakers can meet and mingle and celebrate obscure and independent film.

Lowcountry Local First Block Party – Lowcountry Local First is a nonprofit advocate for local, independent businesses and a resource for the community members they serve. We’re working to create jobs and grow the Lowcountry economy by empowering local makers, growers and service providers.

8th Annual BBQ & Brews Bash – 25 New Beligum Beers on tap! Jump Castles and Face Painting for the kids, Oyster’s and Hog roast, cornhole tourment and music by Dubplates. Come join us in the parking lot for a day of great beer and family fun!

Second Sunday On King Street – It’s one of the most important 2nd Sundays of the year! Cool temps, bigger crowds, holiday thoughts and hurricanes behind us. The Charleston Animal Society will be there with their now-famous Firefighter Calendar. And they’re inviting all their friends!

Oysters For Autism Oyster Roast – Enjoy a night of live music, oysters, drinks, and a silent auction at Bowens Island! All proceeds will benefit individuals and families living with Autism Spectrum Disorder and who are helped by the Lowcountry Autism Foundation at the MUSC Children’s Hospital.
