Events in Charleston on Saturday, September 19th

Charleston Watersports fest – A marketing initiative of the Charleston Area Sports Commission, Charleston Water SportsFest includes seven days of continuous activities on the Lowcountry’s greatest asset, water!   CWSF includes businesses, organizations and individuals providing a number of “on the water” options for visitors ready for a get-away vacation: Including Charleston’s premier watersports event of the year, the 3rd Annual Chucktown Showdown, a Stand-Up Paddleboarding Competition at Brittlebank Park. Specatators encouraged and free! There will also be a number of recreational sports, instrucitonal lessons and leisure activities all week.

Charleston Restaurant Week – The next installment of Charleston Restaurant Week is set for September 9-20, 2015! The event, executed by the Greater Charleston Restaurant Association, Inc (GCRA), is one of the most highly anticipated culinary events in the Charleston area. It is an opportunity to enjoy the world-renowned cuisine of the Lowcountry as participating restaurants offer prix fixe lunch and dinner menus.

Charleston Beer Week – The event celebrates the area’s successful craft beer scene, which continues to grow. The Charleston area now has nine production breweries (and many more in development), three brewpubs, and a variety of craft beer-centric bars, restaurants, and retail stores. The celebration is expected to include 42 events and event announcements are ongoing. Events will be announced via the Charleston Beer Week website and social media channels.

Charleston Farmers Market – The CFM is dedicated to the support and advocacy of Lowcountry farmers, growers, prepared/packaged food, artisans, crafters and live performers. We offer a variety of local produce, plants, herbs and cut flowers as well as breakfast and lunch vendors, live entertainment and an assortment of juried arts and crafts from local artisans. Attracting citizens and visitors alike, the CFM is the community connection, bringing together people from all parts of the Lowcountry and beyond. Whether you are a local that joins us each weekend or a visitor just passing through, we have something for everyone and we appreciate your support!

Where: Marion Square, downtown Charleston 

When: Saturday, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Shrimp and Grits Charleston – This year’s Shrimp & Grits Chefs’ Competition will feature 20 top Chefs from Downtown Charleston and Mount Pleasant.  Not only will you help these great Restaurants and Chefs raise money for the Charleston Animal Society you will get tosavor 20 different, delicious versions of Shrimp & Grits. You decide the winner, while you enjoy music, drinks and interesting vendors.

When: Saturday, 6 – 9 p.m.

Charleston Battery Soccer Home Game – The Charleston Battery soccer team will face off at home against the Charlotte Independence. Come out and support the home team on Daniel Island at 7:30 p.m.

Events in Charleston on Sunday, September 20th

Kiawah Island Triathlon – The Tri-Kiawah is a USAT-sanctioned intermediate distance competition. Featuring a .7-mile swim, 25.1-mile bike and 6.1-mile run around beautiful Kiawah Island, this triathlon is sure to be popular among locals and visitors alike. Be sure to register early for this event!

Zen Meditation Group Charleston – Charleston Zen is a group that practices meditation in the Soto Zen tradition. The group meets Sunday mornings at Holy Cow Yoga – 10 Windermere Blvd (across from Earth Fare) in West Ashley. This location is just across the Ashley River bridge from downtown Charleston, SC. Newcomers, including beginners, are welcome. There is no cost for visitors to attend.

The Carolina Green Fair – The Carolina Green Fair features conservation education through fun and inventive demonstrations, interactive play and music, and education shared by experts in their field. Come celebrate good environmental stewardship and “being green” while enjoying beer, food, music, and Lowcountry artisans!

When: Sunday, 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.

The 6th OPEN Arts Expo – The OPEN Arts Expo is a celebration of local arts and culture and is the kick off to Charleston’s fall arts season. OPEN presents a variety of arts in the Lowcountry including music, dance, theatre, and the visual and literary arts. Attendees will enjoy live music, performances, arts activities, visual arts, and more. OPEN is a free, family-friendly event with plenty of fun activities for children of all ages.
