Folly Beach
Folly Beach, known as “The Edge of America,” offers something for everyone who ventures out past James Island. Local surfers flock to the Washout on Folly Beach for the best waves in the Charleston area, and the beach hosts several surfing tournaments each year. Locals and visitors also can monitor the local wildlife on the beach, including the loggerhead turtles that nest on Folly from May to September annually. In recent years, the approximately forty nests produced over three thousand turtle hatchlings, the survival of which was due largely to the care of volunteers.

If fishing is more your style, pick a spot on the Edgar S. Taylor fishing pier and see if anything’s biting. The fishing pier also hosts Moonlight Mixer several times a year through the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission, where you can boogie down with the locals to classic beach music. Folly Beach combines laid-back island living with eclectic shops, exciting nightlife, and memorable scenery.

“This hip, laid-back destination is Charleston’s beach town of choice. A slow-paced vibe is complimented by an eclectic mix of surf shops, local cafes, and bars with outdoor seating under palmetto-thatched roofs."
