Music Events in Charleston this weekend

Edwin McCain Band “an evening with” at the Windjammer – Few artists share such a tight bond with their fans and can fill concert venues like McCain can. And even fewer can win over new audiences the way Edwin does. Witty and affable, engaging and entertaining, McCain’s stage presence has even brought him invitations to deliver motivational speeches at corporate events, peppered with musical breaks featuring his hit songs.

Music On The Green – Come on out to Freshfields Village on Friday from 6:00 to 9:00 pm for a free, outdoor concert on the Village Green featuring  Shrimp City Slim who will be performing Lowcountry blues and boogie all evening. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and beach chairs for the event.

Music Confab Showcase Venue #1 Charleston Music Hall – The New Music Confab brings professionals from all areas of the Artist Development process together: radio, record labels, managers, agents, festival and concert promotion, sound and video production, social media, and of course, New Music Artists. New Music Confab won’t be the end of your own personal New Music Discovery; it’s the beginning. Artists performing on Saturday include: Sat Jordan Rager, Brooke Eden, Taylor Centers, Shelly Waters, Tyler Boone and Chris Wilcox.

Music Confab Showcase Venue #2 Music Farm – It’s OFFICIAL! Death of Paris is CONFIRMED as a New Music Confab Showcase Artist! They’ll play Saturday, August 29th, 2015 in Charleston, SC at the Music Farm along with Atlas Road Crew, Smashing Satellites, The Steppin Stones, and Kylie Odetta. MMA Fight Night at the Point – “FIGHT NIGHT will feature exciting bouts you won’t want to miss. Come out and support the upcoming talent, great food, cold drinks, and friends!”

Charleston Riverdogs vs. Asheville Tourists – Saturday is Cancer Survivor Appreciation Night, presented by MUSC Health. The RiverDogs will be meeting with many of the strong survivors from the Hollings Cancer Center and learn of all the incredible cancer research occurring in our community. Saturday is College of Charleston Night at The Joe. The RiverDogs help kick off the new school year and welcome incoming freshmen to the Lowcountry. College of Charleston basketball head coach Earl Grant will be throwing out the first pitch to baseball head coach Matt Heath. The Cougars cheerleading and dance squads will be entertaining fans throughout the game as well. RiverDogs Home Game – Princess and Pirates Night – Come to the ballpark as the RiverDogs celebrate Faith Night. Gates open half an hour earlier than usual at 3:30 p.m., and there will be a presentation from Charleston Southern baseball player Chris Singleton on “The Power of Faith” starting at 3:45. The entire Charleston Southern baseball team will be in attendance as well. During the game, the RiverDogs will auction off their “Seersucker Sunday” jerseys with proceeds to benefit the Singleton Memorial Fund. Art and Cultural events in Charleston this weekend

Charleston City Night Market – Area ​Artists and Artisans will take over the Charleston City Market as  THE NIGHT MARKET continues this weekend! The Night Market is located in the Charleston City Market, Charleston’s #1 most visited attraction; a venue where over 50 area artisans, artists, food vendorsand local musicians gather together, each Friday and Saturday night, to create a memorable evening. 6:30 pm-10:30 pm

SC Reggae Jerk & Wine Festival – Celebrate Jamaica Day in the Carolinas to benefit Healthy Lifestyle Network, a non profit organization. Activities will include wine tasting by Irvin Vineyards, Total Wine and Southern Wine and Spirits. Jamaican Dominoes tournament, Ludo, Jerk Cook-off or Demonstration, Pepper Eating Contest, Live musical performances by International Reggae/Soca Artists Kenne Blessin and the Dubplates. Caribbean Marketplace with vendors.

Family events and activities in Charleston this weekend

Free Movie Night at Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park – This August the Town of Mount Pleasant and Cinebarre will team up to present outdoor movies at Mount Pleasant’s Waterfront Park. Each screening is free to attend and there will be food and drinks available for purchase. Feel free to bring blankets and lounge chairs to the any of the 6 pm showings. This week’s movie is Guardians of The Galaxy.

Grape Stomping Festival – It’s going to be a “grape” time at the 12th Annual Grape Stomping Festival. Visitors can stomp local muscadines for the Grape Stomping Contest, compete in the annual Lucy Look-Alike Contest and enjoy a fun-filled day under the oaks at Charleston’s only vineyard and winery. Admission is only $10.00 per car, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting Pet Helpers and Frierson Elementary School. To fuel the visitors who want to stomp to victory, local food vendors will be on-site including: Chucktown Mobile Seafood, Costal Crust, Home Team BBQ, Korki’s Cafe, Sweet Lulu’s Bakery, Old Salt Gourmet Pretzels, King of Pops, and Ben & Jerry’s. Music will be provided byRawberry Jam and Pierce Edens.

Lowcountry Waterjam 2 – Water Jam 2, a water sports and music festival, will be held this Saturday at Trophy Lakes in Johns Island. The family-friendly event will include live music, Tiki bar, paddle boarding, kayaking, kiteboards, wakeboards, festival foods, jet ski competition, water skiing and jet boarding.  A portion of the proceeds benefits Limbs Without Limits. Water Jam 2 runs from noon until 6 pm. Don’t forget your towels and tubes!
