Author luncheon with Ken Burger. The former Post and Courier columnist and current author sits down with fans to discuss his latest book, Salkehatchie Soup. 12 noon. The luncheon will be held at Fish (442 King Street) with a reception held afterwards at Blue Bicycle Books. $25.

Jazz Night at the Joe. Local minor league baseball team, the Riverdogs, gets an infusion of music by the Charleston Jazz Orchestra this Friday. Tickets start at $9. Joe Riley Stadium, 360 Fishburne Street, Charleston.

Party at the Point. Meet up with your friends for the opening night of this summer concert series as Blue Monday takes the stage. Doors open at 5:30, and the band takes the stage at 6:30. Cash bar. Cover charge $5 per person. Bring your blanket or beach chair!

Holy City Shakespeare: Hamlet. The Bard’s most performed play gets new treatment with the Holy City Shakespeare Company in this updated, modern take on Hamlet. 7:30 PM (also plays Saturday, April 27 at 7:30 PM). Shaggin’ on the Cooper. A local favorite, Shaggin’ on the Cooper nearly always sells out. Dance the night away this weekend to the Groove Train as this summer series kicks off. Gates open at 7:00 and the music begins at 8:00. Mount Pleasant Pier. $10 per person.

A Year with Frog and Toad. This play, as presented by the Charleston Stage Company, draws from the classic children’s books by Arnold Lobel. 3 PM at the Dock Street Theatre. All tickets are $22.50.

26th Annual Blessing of the Fleet. To kick off Charleston’s shrimping season, locals gather as the boats are blessed with a prayer for safe travels. Food and craft vendors, a shrimp-eating contest and shagging to beach music will be a part of the fun. 11:30 AM- 6 PM. Free admission. Mount Pleasant Waterfront Memorial Park.

Lowcountry Local First’s 6th Annual Chef’s Potluck. Taste samples of food and beverages from some of Charleston’s best restaurants, including FIG, Poogan’s Porch and Cypress. 4:00-7:00 PM. Admission includes live music, beverage samples from Firefly Distillery and Coast (among others) and a live auction. Lowcountry Local First members’ tickets $60 per person, general public $70 per person.
