Friday August 29

6th Annual Lowcountry Jazz Festival – The 2014 Lowcountry Jazz Festival is back for Labor Day weekend and will be featuring award-winning jazz, soul, R&B and pop artists – so many performances that they added an extra day to the line-up this year! If you are a music fan, you won’t want to miss this. All weekend long, various times and prices. North Charleston Performing Arts Center, 5001 Coliseum Drive, North Charleston

Chucktown Gets Down – Head to the Music Farm for Local Music and Art Night featuring Hubcap Annie, Big Yen, Carina Point, Ashton Stanley and Superflow. Celebrate and support our local musicians and artists – the idea behind this event is to give the local talent an opportunity to play on a big stage and get valuable exposure. Roti Rolls will be serving their delicious fare and the Savannah Bee Co. will be setting up a honey tasting. Doors open at 7pm. First band comes on at 8pm. $5 at the door. Music Farm, 32 Ann Street

Marriage: A Comedy Show – Comedian Vince Fabra has some guts: Tomorrow he is getting hitched but tonight he will be hosting a comedy show alongside Dusty Slay, Sam Jackel and Danny Green. His entire set will be centered around getting married the next day. $12 at the door. Doors open at 8pm. Show Starts at 9:30pm. Charleston Music Hall, 37 John Street.

Shrimp and Grits Cook-Off – Eat, drink and be a judge this weekend at this grassroots, local event highlighting the very best of Charleston cuisine and the chefs who prepare it! The Shrimp and Grits Cook-Off will be supporting the Charleston Animal Society while feeding the good people of Charleston! Fifteen chefs will compete for bragging rights in downtown Charleston this weekend, it is sure to be a delicious time. The ticket price includes shrimp, grits, alcohol, living music and book signings. 7-10pm. $35 for adults and $12 for children 12 and under. Charleston Visitor’s Center Bus Shed, 375 Meeting Street.

Sunday August 31

2nd Annual Theater Charleston Awards Gala – This event is the Lowcountry’s only comprehensive theatre awards show that recognizes excellence in theatrical performance, production and design. The goal of the Theatre Charleston Awards is to promote live theatre and increase awareness of the richness and talent of the arts community in the Lowcountry. Tickets include a red carpet event, silent auction, people’s choice voting, open bar and heavy d’eouvres. Formal attire is expected and black tie is optional. $75 per ticket. Gala begins at 6pm. Ceremony begins at 7:30pm. Charleston Music Hall, 37 John Street.

Jazz on the River – Bring a blanket, chair, and picnic basket and listen to jazz music on the river. New Galaxy, Devone Gary, and the New Image Band will perform. Food will be available for purchase and proceeds go to Liberty Hill Improvement Center in North Charleston. $25 at the door. 6pm-10pm. Riverfront Park, 1001 Everglades Ave, North Charleston.

Deluge: Adult Splash Day at the Joe – The Charleston Riverdogs are partnering with GoCo Events for this epic water experience that will not only include more than 30,000 gallons of water but good food, good people and great live music as well! Live performances by Kat Robichaud, Dead 27’s, The Royal Tinfoil and South Street. There will also be inflatables, super soakers, water balloons, and the fire department’s water hose to soak the stadium. $15 in advance, $20 day of, 12 and under get in free. Doors open at 3pm.
